online music & art lessons for kids aged 4-14

OUR mission

QuaranTunes aims to create a community of musicians who share their skills and passions with aspiring musicians around the world. While our lessons are targeted at children ages 4-14, we also offer masterclasses taught by world-renowned professionals that are open to anyone. Our teachers are volunteers and all of our classes are free. However, we encourage a donation to our charitable cause in return for our services. We believe in the power of music to connect and bring joy to people around the world, especially in these hard times.

The Man Behind Our New Look

Hello Quarantunes Family!

We are excited to announce our shift into using the Tutorbook software to help you schedule classes and communicate with teachers. But this shift wouldn’t be complete without giving some attention and well-deserved recognition to the person behind it all, Nicholas Chiang.

Nicholas set up Tutorbook some time ago, after witnessing a need in his high school.

Teacher of the Month: Zach Chang-Otanez and his new EP

Zachary Chang-Otanez, Teacher Coordinator at Quarantunes, built on more than a decade of music experience to write and produce his recent EP, Coronal Mass Ejection. The title is equal parts an allusion for the current pandemic and an astrophysics reference, since Zach wants to not just pursue music, but pursue astrophysics as an academic career. Zach would describe the music on the EP as alt-rock, a mix of Red Hot Chili Peppers and even the Foo Fighters. The sound is best described as “dreamy” yet diverse, with tracks ranging from excited and upbeat to relatively mellow.

Mahi Patil, Vocal Head Teacher

Senior at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, CA

I’ve been singing since I was about four years old and it’s a huge part of my life. It’s my biggest passion and the most expressive outlet for my emotions. QuaranTunes has given me the opportunity to share my love for music with others. It is the most wonderful feeling to be able to help someone else discover their own unique sound. Not only is teaching through QuaranTunes making me a better musician, but also a better person. I’m able to understand the needs of my students and challenges they face much more thoroughly. My interactions with my students are easily the best part of my day. I think becoming a vocal teacher for QuaranTunes is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

QuaranTunes was an organization that I never thought I would be part of because I had never taught art online before. But as a teacher I was blown away by how attentive, engaged, and wonderful the kids were, especially considering the classes weren’t in person. It was a real blast to work with all the kids I taught and see them create such beautiful paintings. They gave my summer much more meaning. My brother was a student in my class as well and seeing him grow as an artist really made both of us happy. I don’t think I would have thought about teaching him if it hadn’t been for QuaranTunes. Above all I was so grateful to be given a chance to share my love for surrealism with others. Being a part of the QuaranTunes team really brightened my life and I wouldn’t trade my time as a teacher for anything.
